Trekking in Chiang Mai

Village we slept in around Chiang Mai

That said, we must recognize that you have all the possible facilities to make quite decent trekkings for the area at good prices. For those who have more time and want more tranquility, hippy atmosphere and trekking I comment that they recommended Pae, a town 3 hours north of Chiang Mai that, although it has already been discovered by backpackers and others, seems less developed than the older sister.

We all sleep together in an open wood construction. The ground was hard and quite cold but the fatigue made a good night pass. The next day we got up early, had breakfast and walked a little over an hour until we reached the place where they were the elephants. I will never do it again. It is an incredible shame to see these noble animals treated in the way they are treated. Chained to trees while not carrying tourists or they are washing and punished with a metal skewer when they do not obey the directions of their riders. It is a real shame and I advise you not to contribute to this with your money. We made the mistake, but one and no more.

The same people were the ones who mounted us in the bamboo rafts and we started a quiet descent down the river. The landscape on the sides of the river is beautiful and there is great tranquility.

We ate something when we arrived at the collection point and then they took us to the starting point of the rafting. As I expected something almost as quiet as the bamboo raft ride, I have to admit that rafting pleasantly surprised me. Without being of a very exciting level, at least we enjoyed some decent rapids and even some fell into the water. The pity is that the water level was very low at some points and we got stuck sometimes (largely because of our guide's poor experience).

When we finished rafting, they took us, already busted, to Chiang Mai.

The truth is that we do not stop and, despite some disappointments along the way, we had a good time. However, I think that, if you have more time to spend in the area, it is better that you divide the activities for different days because perhaps doing it as we have only a tasting of everything but nothing in depth.
