63 Syrian pounds = 1 Euro

Syria is much cheaper than its neighbors - Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Israel. With a daily budget of 20 euros you can travel quietly at the backpacker level without adding too many luxuries.

At the Ghazal hostel in Damascus we slept for $ 10 a head. It is a mid-range hostel with rooms with only four beds. In a few cases you should pay at a hostel in Syria for more than $ 10 a night.

In Syria you will find bedrooms at very cheap prices, middle class hotels and luxury hotels. A triple of average quality comes to about $ 20 per head. A double for about $ 15 each. Remember that if you go in low season you can reduce the price significantly.

General price of public transport
To travel by taxi from Damascus airport to the city center there is a stipulated price of 1,500 pounds. It is paid at the same counter of the airport and the ticket is delivered to the taxi driver on duty abroad.

Luxury places like Al Hawali in Damascus or Le Jardin in Hama are surprisingly cheap. In Al Hawali, for example, I had a wonderful meal, the place and the decoration is splendid and the main dishes come out for approximately 250 Syrian pounds.

A kebab on the street or any fast food in one of the many stalls in the city will leave you for less than one euro. If you are in a tourist area it may exceed the euro.

A Marlboro leaves for 80 pounds (just over one euro).

Beer in Syria is expensive, friend. You will hardly find places where they sell it and finding one can be a real adventure. We could taste some blonde in Damascus in some places in the Christian area of the city and in Hama in the most expensive hotels. The beer comes out for at least 3 euros. The only consolation is that it is usually accompanied by a carrot and cucumber lid ... Weirder things have been seen.

It seems that they have a kind of stipulated price to visit the tourist places of Syria. Both to enter the ruins of Palmira, in the citadel of Aleppo and visit the castle of Crac des Chevaliers leaves for 150 Syrian pounds. If you want the services of a guide you must haggle and usually start for about 300 pounds.

We visited the Nureddin hamman in the heart of Damascus. It is the oldest in the city and totally recommended. The full service with massage came out for 600 Syrian pounds and treated us like a king. I think we were more than three hours and he knew us a little ...

I do not know if leaving the country by plane should pay fees. If you cross the border on foot to Jordan, you must pay a fee of £ 500 when leaving the country.

The Syrian Embassy in Spain offers a visa of 23 euros if we are going to make a single entry in the country or of 29 euros in case we need a multiple entry. Useful if you have a round trip ticket and on your trip you want to alternate with other neighboring destinations such as Lebanon or Jordan. You can see in this link how to apply for a visa to Syria.
