A few meters from the medieval fortress of Villefranche de Conflent - a nice small version of Carcasonne - is located the cave of the Grans Canalettes, one of the most beautiful caves in the French Pyrenees.
Rocked between the mountains of French Eastern Pyrenees, this cave exceeds 20 kilometers of development with different interior rooms - one of them of 440 meters.

It was discovered by chance in the early 50s and after more than 30 years of geological exploration was opened to the public in 1984.
With a successful system of lights throughout the cave, the Canalettes cave does not shelter archaeological challenges such as prehistoric caves found in southern France, but they form an impressive landscape of huge stalactites, stalagmites and unique formations that will leave you with the mouth wide open along the way.
Several walkways take us into the jaws of the Earth and in the last and wide room of the underground cathedral there is a musical show of lights and sounds during the summer months they offer a final cherry to the tourist who enters them.
