The Arenal Volcano
Almost no one should discuss the appeal Costa Rica for nature-loving travelers.
Country that has managed to generate a quality tourist destination brand, Costa Rica called my mind a December to do two very specific activities: visit volcanoes and practice canoping.
In the travel preparation phase, my girlfriend and I decided that the specific destination within the country was the town of Fortune. Located in a region north of the country, halfway between the two oceans, Fortuna brings together many attractions and places of interest.
The arrival in Costa Rica was by air and at the airport of San José, we rented a small 4 × 4 to face the 3 hours of driving at night to our destination. It is not that it is not possible to arrive easily by bus - with the consequent saving of money - but my trips are not of weeks, with which, for me, more time over money.
The road was as I had imagined. Except for the main road that crosses the country from north to south, the rest of the roads are paved roads - in the best case - that simulate snakes that run through the mountains of the country. The green predominates, the fog makes an appearance giving the postcard a mystical touch and the rain welcomes the traveler which baptismal water. After all, what I was looking for was nature, right?
The travel plan consisted of 4 full days in which I planned to visit the Arenal Volcano National Parkhike circuit canoping and visit, back to San José, the Poas Volcano.
In Fortune it's very easy to find "cabins ”or rooms for a moderate price (about USD 15 per night). It's about a tiny town with great life It is aimed at serving the multitude of tourists who visit the area.
The view during each morning was unbeatable: the silhouette of the Arenal volcano. Many times his fireplace, still active, was covered by clouds, but standing still, waiting patiently for the clouds to dissipate, was a wonderful way to start the day.
The visit to the National Park takes half a day. It can be done guided or on your own. We decided the latter because we did not find much difference between the information that the books could give and that of the guides that charge you.
